"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you." - Matthew 6:33
My parents often tell me that it's good to be a Christian... but it's not enough: "You can be a Christian, but don't be so narrow-minded... you need to be practical... otherwise you'll end up on the street." To a certain extent it is true, if I'm being a lazy bum and using God as my excuse, most likely I'll end up on the street. But if I am truly seeking God first with my whole heart do I have faith that He will provide? The thing is, you don't meet many people who can genuinely say that God has provided all that they need, but how many of them have actually sought Him above all other things? The Christians in China, in persecuted countries and even in the New Testament church seemed to stand in stark contrast to the Christians of modern day America. Not saying that are none in this country who pursue God whole-heartedly, but there seem so few. Must God Himself strip us of all our comforts in order that we might seek Him wholeheartedly? If this be the case, so be it. A scary thought, though... what if He doesn't? what if God gives us up to our lusts and our passions? Lord, ruin lives, get us out of our comfort and cause us to repent of our lukewarm "devotion" to you. Help...
