It is not difficult to live a comfortable 'Christian' life full of fun and joy that is yet, completely devoid of God. Faith in God that is dependent on circumstance is no faith at all. Christ said, "follow me"; one cannot follow Christ only when he finds it easy, otherwise he will, no doubt, quickly lose sight of Christ who never compromised to do His Father's will. We must join with Christ in saying, "Not my will, but yours be done", and so submit out entire will to Him. Christ's submission to the will of God was not done partially. Even if Christ's desire may have been good (to remain with the Father rather than be separated from God by the sin of man), He knew that ultimately anything He wanted that went against the Father's will was disobedience.

"Therefore, since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, because he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, so as to live the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for the lusts of men, but for the will of God." - 1 Peter 4:1-2

And shall I pray Thee change Thy will my Father,
Until it be according unto mine?
But no, Lord, no, that shall never be, rather
I pray Thee blend my human will with Thine.

I pray Thee hush the hurrying eager longing
I pray Thee soothe the pangs of keen desire.
See in my quiet places wishes thronging,
Forbid them, Lord, purge, though it be with fire.

And work in me to will and do Thy pleasure.
Let all within me, peaceful, reconciled,
Tarry content my Wellbeloved's leisure,
At last, at last, even as a weaned child.
