I used to think that when it was time to go to heaven, I could just grab onto my mom or dad when they started floating up. And even though people used to always tell me that I couldn't take anything to heaven when I died, in the back of my mind I would silently scheme how I would grab my teddy bear and hide him in my shirt so he could come too...
Well, now that I'm a little bit older (and hopefully a bit smarter) I know I can't hold onto my parents, and I can't take my teddy bear. My salvation is not dependent on anyone else. I cannot cling to my pastor when Christ returns, or my "good" Christian friend. As Christians we must all have a personal relationship with God. Fellowship is important, but we cannot depend on other people to sustain our relationship with God. If the people are gone, will our relationship with God go as well?
"And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent." -John 17:3
